Egypt to return body of Israeli found in Sinai

Egyptian media report man whose body was discovered off Mediterranean coast in El Arish area had drowned, but later say he was also shot

Egyptian media reported Friday that the body of an Israeli national who had drowned was found off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the Sinai Peninsula.

 

The body was discovered in the al-Sheikh Zweid area in eastern El Arish.

 

According to the al-Masry al-Youm report, the body was fully clothed and that some money and a driver's license were found on it, raising suspicions that the man had not just drowned. The report, however, has not been confirmed.

 

According to the earlier reports, Egyptian authorities informed Israeli security officials of the incident through the coordination office in the Rafah crossing.

   

The corpse was transferred to the General Hospital in El Arish. A Foreign Ministry official said the body would be transferred to Israel by Friday night.
