Yair Shamir, the son of late prime minister Yitzhak Shamir, said he was against the prisoner exchange deal that secured Gilad Shalit's release from Hamas captivity.
Shamir, who joined the Yisrael Beiteinu party ahead of the January elections, told a cultural forum in Beersheba, "I'm glad he came home, I even shed some tears. But as a statesman I believe the government succumbed to unjust public pressure. When I went to war I knew there was a possibility I would never return." (Ilana Curiel)
