UN chief 'concerned' over exchanges of fire on Israel-Syria border

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concern over exchanges of fire between Israel and Syria, and urged both countries to exercise restraint.

“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the potential for escalation,” Ban's spokesperson said in a statement. “He calls for the utmost restraint and urges Syria and Israel to uphold the Disengagement Agreement, respect their mutual obligations, and halt firing of any kind across the ceasefire line.” (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
