The website of Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported that senior officials in the Muslim Brotherhood have convened to discuss the implications of the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip. During the meeting disagreement emerged in regards to the manner of support Hamas is granted.
According to one source the bedrock of disagreement is the overlooking of weapons smuggling into the Strip. Heading the opposition is Khairat El-Shater, formerly the Brotherhood's nominee for president, who believes turning a blind eye to the arms smuggling might embarrass Egypt in the international arena.
