Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid said Sunday he has offered former Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni to be his No. 2 at the party. "I've had many talks with Tzipi Livni over the past few days," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"She was offered the No. 2 spot at the Yesh Atid list and to be a full partner in all major decisions. A split in the centrist bloc is not good for Israel and I call on her to join forces and change the country together."

Upon the forming of his party more than six months ago Lapid declared that "no incumbent politician" would join his party. "All around the world, when politicians fail they are replaced with new people with new ideas," he said.

Livni is not serving in a public capacity but had hopes of leading Kadima less than a year ago before losing the chairmanship to Shaul Mofaz.

The former Kadima chairwoman is expected to announce her return to politics, likely as the head of a new party, in the coming days. The move could take away votes from Lapid's Yesh Atid and further divide the leftist-centrist bloc.

On Saturday, Labor Chairwoman Shelly Yachimovich called on Livni to join the Labor.

"Those who wish to replace (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and form a better government for Israel cannot form new parties that will remain small and compete for the same pool of voters without offering a real alternative," Yachimovich said during a cultural event in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

"The only alternative to Netanyahu is the Labor Party headed by me. Those who wish to overthrow Netanyahu and bolster the centrist bloc must join Labor," the journalist-turned-politician said.
