Prosecutors: Demjanjuk died of natural causes

No evidence found to support attorney's claim that negligence by doctors led to Nazi war criminal's death

Bavarian prosecutors say they've found no evidence that negligence by medical professionals helped lead to the death of John Demjanjuk while he was appealing his conviction for Nazi war crimes.

Demjanjuk's attorney in June had asked for an investigation, alleging that pain medication given to Demjanjuk may have exacerbated his kidney problems.

But prosecutors' spokesman Bernd Magiera told The Associated Press on Tuesday the investigation had been closed after "no evidence was found of either any foul play or any error by the doctors."

Demjanjuk was convicted in May 2011 on 28,060 counts of accessory to murder on allegations he served as a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp. He denied ever serving as a guard anywhere and died in March at 91 while his conviction was under appeal.
