VIDEO - In a move likely to bring a smile to the faces of Jewish people worldwide, director Nadav Nachmany has produced a YouTube video of the story of Hanukkah
using the Japanese anime technique, with visuals that embody Pokémon as much as ancient Israel.
The clip, entitled "Samurai Jew: The Eighth Night," mixes the Japanese cartoon visuals with a bit of Yiddish, and is arguably the most original Hanukkah video of the year so far.
The production follows in the footsteps of renowned TV shows such as "Sesame Street", which has also produced its own version in the past, picking up hundreds of thousands of YouTube hits in the process.
The eight day seasonal holiday began on December 8 and was marked with a host of celebrations around the world.
The festival remembers the lighting of a candle inside the Second Temple in Jerusalem, which followed the victorious effort of a Jewish group known as the Maccabees to recapture the ancient city from the Syrians, in a three-year-war over 2,500 years ago.
