Dozens of Holocaust survivors protested Sunday outside the government's weekly cabinet meeting. They demanded that the Finance Ministry allocate 16 NIS million (roughly $4.2 million) to reimburse survivors' medical costs. They held signs reading "Steinitz, we hope you're warm at night, we're cold."
In response the Finance Ministry claimed that funding of the survivors' fund, charged with reimbursing medical costs, had grown in recent years. However, Ynet has uncovered that the fund is currently depleted, and despite being eligible, 8,000 survivors will not be able to receive their stipends. (Omri Efraim)
