Bennett: I did not call on soldiers to refuse orders

Habayit Hayehudi Chairman Naftali Bennett stressed at a press conference on Saturday evening that he never called on soldiers to refuse orders, insisting that his words were twisted by politicians and the media.

"The words came from the bottom of my heart and I won't apologize for them," he said. "But I am not a private citizen but a public leader. So I now state in the simplest of terms: An order to uproot an Arab village or a Jewish settlement violates the most basic of human rights... It's a difficult dilemma. I pray with all my heart that no such order is issued ever again. But if there is no other choice, I clearly state that a soldier must follow the army's order." (Moran Azulay)
