Germany's concerted effort to rebuild Jewish life over the last 20 years, essentially by importing it from the former Soviet Union, has been one of the largest free movements of Jewish people in their long history.
It would appear that Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union are going through a double process of integration – on the one hand into German society, and on the other into the Jewish community, as witnessed by dozens of new synagogues built across Germany over the past decade.
