Egypt: Mubarak to pay millions to have charges dropped

The Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported that Egypt's attorney general has accepted Hosni Mubarak's lawyers' request to pay 18 million Egyptian pounds (roughly $2.7 million), equal to the estimated value of gifts Mubarak and his family received.

Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the prosecutor's office is considering an offer by the Mubarak family to pay 20 million Egyptian pounds (roughly $3 million) in return for dropping the charges against him. The reports came in the wake of reports that Mubarak was being investigated for alleged gifts he received while in power. (Roi Kais)
