Syria: Rift between Assad, international envoy Brahimi
Damas Post, a Syrian government affiliated news site, reported a rift between international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and Syrian President Bashar Assad, predating Assad's speech last week.
Informed sources said that Lakhdar Brahimi asked Assad if he would contend in Syria's 2014 national election, to which Assad reportedly retorted: "The last thing I am concerned about is a position; the only thing I am interested in is the will and interests of the Syrian people." (Roi Kais)
