Defense Minister Ehud Barak
refused to grant IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Major-General Gadi Eizenkot permission to speak at a memorial service held in honor of former IDF Chief Amnon Lipkin-Shahak.
Major-General Yossi Baidatz,
head of the IDF Command and Staff College, was also barred from speaking in the event.
The ceremony was held at the Radzyner School of Law of the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya. Both were meant to speak on "the limitation of exercising military power – strategic, ethical and legal standpoints."
Sources in the defense establishment said that "The participation of senior officers in an event dealing with the limitations of military force, merely one day after the elections, in unseeming."
Sources in the IDC said that the school was surprised by Barak's decision.
