Report: NIS 1.5 billion transferred to religious institutions

The Hiddush association for Religious Freedom and Equality published a study which reveals that during 2010 and 2011 the Knesset's Finance Committee transferred nearly NIS 1.5 billion to finance religious institutions and educational facilities.

According to the study, the money transfers were made after the budget was closed and using governmental budget surpluses from previous years. The committee's spokesperson said in response that Hiddush is personally attacking committee chairman, MK Moshe Gafni from the United Torah Judaism, who demanded that the Knesset speaker launch a probe into the association's directors' salary.
