Leader of Palestinian group injured in Syria bombing

Nayef Hawatmeh, head of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, suffered light wounds when he was hit by flying glass after a car bomb exploded in central Damascus, according to Arab sources. Thursday’s explosion in the city killed more than 40 people and injured over 200.

Hawatmeh formed the Marxist DFLP – one of the major factions within the Palestine Liberation Organization – in 1969. The organization was responsible for numerous terrorist attacks on Israeli soil, including the attack at Maalot in 1974, which killed some 30 people. (Roi Kais)
