Jordan's parliament votes for serving PM to remain

Published: 03.09.13, 19:09 / Israel News

The Royal Palace says Jordan's King Abdullah II has designated his caretaker prime minister to form a new permanent Cabinet at the request of the newly elected parliament. Abdullah Ensour, a former liberal lawmaker known for his criticism of the government, is the first prime minister in Jordan's history to be elected by parliament. He has held the PM's post since last October.

Traditionally, Abdullah selects prime ministers, but he relinquished that right under reforms he initiated to stave off an Arab Spring-style uprising. (AP)
