Military machine-gun barrel explodes, 2 lightly hurt
Two IDF reservists taken to Soroka hospital after machine-gun barrel explodes during training at Zeelim base
Two IDF reservists were lightly wounded on Tuesday when a machine-gun barrel exploded at the Zeelim base in southern Israel. The two were taken to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. The army launched an inquiry into the incident.

The accident occurred several hours after an Air Force Cobra helicopter crashed near Gedera, killing two pilots. It is estimated the crash was caused by a technical fault.
The number of IDF soldiers killed in accidents rose in 2012 which saw eight soldiers killed compared to one in 2011. In total, 85 soldiers were injured during training in 2012.
The accidents include the death of an Artillery Corps combatant in a jeep accident in the Golan Heights, the death of a female soldier in the Mount Herzl stage collapse, the death of two Navy officers in a car accident and the death of a Military Police soldier in a bus crash.
