Ban: 'UN, Holy See share goals of peace, justice and eradication of poverty'

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday expressed the hope that the new pope, the Argentine Jorge Mario Bergoglio, continues to promote dialogue among religions like its predecessor Benedict XVI.  Addressing his "warmest congratulations" to the new Pope and "all Catholics throughout the world," Mr. Ban also called for "the continued cooperation between the United Nations and the Holy See."

"We have many common goals, including the promotion of peace, social justice and human rights and the eradication of poverty and hunger," he added.
