Peres: New pope will continue to advance ties with Jews

President Shimon Peres welcomed the election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina as the new leader of the troubled Roman Catholic Church.
During a meeting with the heads of the Polish Catholic Church, Peres said "the relations between the Vatican and the Jewish people have been intertwined throughout the history of both religions. I am certain the new pope will continue to advance (these relations)." (Noam Dvir)
