Cyprus court sentences Hezbollah man to 4 years

A Cyprus court has sentenced an admitted Hezbollah member to four years in prison after he was convicted of helping plan attacks against Israelis on the island.

The three-judge bench in Limassol had found 24-year-old Swedish-Lebanese citizen Hossam Taleb Yaacoub guilty on five of eight charges including participation in a criminal organization. The court said during sentencing Thursday that the crimes "potentially put in danger the safety of Israeli citizens as well as targets on the territory of the Cyprus Republic." (AP)
