Security prisoner dies, riots erupt

Palestinian prisoner Maysara Abu Hamdiya has died of cancer at the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. Hamdiya, a Hamas member, was sentenced to life in prison in 2002 after being convicted of attempted murder, belonging to a terror organization and possession of a weapon.

Followng his death, riots erupted in prisons in south Israel. (Raanan Ben-Zur)
