Rights group: Lives of hunger strikers endangered
A report issued by Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) claimed that the Israel Prison Service (IPS) had disregarded medical ethics, endangering the lives of hunger striking security prisoners. It further stated that medical treatment provided to prisoners, including Ben Zygier, reflected faulty conduct of the medical services. The organization called for medical services to be turned over to the Health Ministry.
The IPS said in response, “The medical system acts professionally and responsibly. Physicians for Human Rights does not possess the tools to carry out a true and objective review process.” (Raanan Ben-Zur)
