Turkey, Egypt against NATO initiative for talks with Israel

None

The Turkish Huriyet newspaper reported that Turkey and Egypt disqualified the NATO initiative for renewed meetings between the foreign ministers of Israel, six Arab countries and Turkey which were held regularly until 2008.

A Western diplomatic source told the Turkish newspaper that "NATO's general-secretary planned to invite the foreign ministers to renew the activity of the 'Mediterranean negotiations' during April but Turkey opposed the idea since this is 'not the right time.'" Turkish sources stressed to the newspaper that Ankara has not disqualified the initiative because of the tension with Israel, but rather for other reasons. (Ynet)
