US thanks 'strong partner' Fayyad

The United States hailed Salam Fayyad as a "strong partner" on Saturday after he resigned from his post as Palestinian prime minister over longstanding tensions with President Mahmud Abbas.
"We recognize the important roles played by both president Abbas and prime minister Fayyad, and appreciate both of their efforts as we and others work to support establishment of a viable, independent Palestinian state," National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said. (AFP)
