3 teenagers detained for abusing, killing cat

Police interrogation reveals gruesome details, as students decide to wreak revenge on animal that scratched them as they fed it

Police arrested three 15-year-old students from central Israel over the weekend on suspicion of brutally abusing a cat, resulting in the animal's death. The three were released under restrictive conditions.

The investigation revealed the youths, who used to feed the cat regularly, became infuriated with it after the animal scratched one of them as they were feeding it. In response, they put the feline inside a barrel and knocked it about, after which they attempted to drown it by filling the container with water.

When these measures failed to kill the animal, they tied it by the neck and slammed it against the wall. Finally, they hanged it from the school fence until it was dead.

A school teacher alerted the police after she felt a strong odor emanating from the direction of the school fence. As she went over to check the cause for the fetid odor, she saw the body of the animal hanging from the fence by the neck.

Police quickly found the teenage suspects, who admitted to the offense and cooperated with the investigation. The interrogation of the youths revealed the brunt of the abuse was carried out by two of the boys, while the third looked on.

Police sought to remand the suspects, yet a Rishon Lezion court rejected the motion, releasing the teenagers to house arrest.

Last week police arrested a Kafr Samia resident who allegedly tied a dog to his car and drove away until the animal's death.
