Israeli President Shimon Peres accepted the recommendation of Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and signed the early release for Kamal Mohammed al-Taj, a terminally ill Palestinian security prisoner who had completed two-thirds of his term. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The decision was accepted by the security forces. Al-Taj had been hospitalized at the Medical Center of the Israel Prison Service and will be transferred to the government hospital in Ramallah. (Noam Dvir, Raanan Ben-Zur and Elior Levy)
