Barmucha was indicted of fraud and was sentenced to 38 months in prison in 2011. Following the road accident in which his wife Ortal was killed and his two children were injured, the Israel Prison Service decided to reduce his sentence.

Upon leaving the prison, Barmucha said: "This is a strange feeling. It saddens me that my wife didn’t get to see me get out of jail and have a normal life. She wanted it badly; we both wanted a clean slate.

"On the other hand, I'm happy to be with my kids again and that I won't be forced to leave them and go back to prison. At the moment, the most important thing to me is to take care of my children. My entire family endured this awful trauma and this is our chance to overcome it."

Barmucha expressed his condolences to the other family that was involved in the accident. Tali Hildesheim, the mother of the second family, was also killed in the accident.
