Jordan says Syrian refugees threaten its security

The Jordanian government is telling the UN Security Council that the increasing influx of Syrian refugees has sparked "a grave humanitarian situation" that threatens the country's security and stability.
Jordan's UN Ambassador Prince Zeid al Hussein sent a letter to the council Thursday asking its members to make a determination that the refugee influx, "if left unchecked and in the absence of the financial assistance required to enable Jordan to cope," constituted a threat to international peace and security. More than 500,000 Syrians have fled to Jordan since the Syrian conflict began in 2011. (AP)
