Inmate who attempted suicide in cell dies of injuries
A 57-year-old inmate who attempted suicide by hanging himself in his cell last week at Eshel Prison died at Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba. Yuri Avrutin was hospitalized following his suicide attempt and his condition deteriorated. In 2004, Avrutin of Kiryat Ata, was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
The Israeli Prison Service said Avrutin had not been declared a suicide risk and was not under special observation. A commission has been established to investigate the incident. (Raanan Ben-Zur)
