UN diplomats: Syrian envoy Brahimi wants to resign
UN diplomats say Lakhdar Brahimi wants to resign as joint United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria. The two diplomats say Brahimi wants to leave because he thinks the Arab League is taking a direction – supporting the Syrian opposition – that makes his role of trying to mediate a political transition almost impossible.
The diplomats say Brahimi is fed up with UN Security Council divisions that have prevented action on Syria. They spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because their discussions with Brahimi were private. (AP)
