Ministers: Public can press slander suits on behalf of IDF
The Ministerial Committee on Legislation approved an amendment to an IDF libel bill that allows soldiers and the public to press a class action suit if they felt slander was made at the Israeli army.
Currently, such class action requires the approval of the attorney general. Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Health Minister Yael German opposed the bill, which was drafted as a response to the legal debate following the film "Jenin, Jenin." (Moran Azulay)
