Staring midnight: Cigarette prices to rise by NIS 2.5-3

Finance Minister Yair Lapid signed an order imposing a new purchase tax on cigarettes, rolling tobacco and cigars which will come into effect midnight Tuesday. In addition, a one-time 10% tax will be imposed on all cigarettes currently in stock and awaiting distribution.
In wake of the order, the price of a pack of cigarettes is expected to rise by NIS 2.3-3 (roughly $0.64-0.84). (Avital Lahav)
