Yachimovich meets Abbas, urges resumption of peace talks

Opposition leader Shelly Yachimovich (Labor), met in Ramallah with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The two discussed the situation in the Middle East and the possibility of progressing beyond the stalemate in the talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Yachimovich told Abbas it is necessary to start peace talks immediately and asked the Palestinian president to respond to American mediation efforts concerning resumption of talks. She also said she told Prime Minister Netanyahu the opposition would provide him with a coalitional safety net should he take steps toward a political settlement with the Palestinians. (Moran Azulay)
