CEOs of Israeli environmental NGOs urged President Shimon Peres to prevent the freezing of the Treasury's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Israel and thus to fulfill the president's obligation to the international community.
At a 2009 conference in Copenhagen dedicated to climate issues Peres pledged that Israel will reduce 20% of GHG emissions by 2020. The president's office said: "We did not like the freeze plan publications on the subject. It is important that Israel abide by the promises it gave to the world."
