Nigeria declares state-of-emergency after Islamist attacks

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in three northeastern states worst hit by increasing violence by Islamist insurgents.

 

"I declare a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. Accordingly the chief of defense staff has been directed to immediately deploy more troops to these states," Jonathan said in a televised address. (Reuters)
