Police commander: shot fired in rescue attempt ‘unjustified’
None
Police Southern District Commander Major General Yoram Halevy told the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee of the Knesset that the single shot fired by police special forces in an attempt to neutralize the suspect and rescue a hostage during the Beersheba bank shootings was “unjustified.”
When questioned by committee chairwoman MK Miri Regev if the shot fired at the restroom could have endangered the hostage, Halevy replied, "There was a malfunction. This shooting was not justified. The subject came up in the review." (Noam Dvir)
