UN: 300,000 displaced in Darfur in 5 months

A resurgence of fighting in Sudan's western Darfur region has driven 300,000 people from their homes so far this year, UN humanitarian aid chief Valerie Amos said on Thursday. She was speaking during a trip to a camp for displaced people outside the North Darfur state capital of El Fasher.
"The United Nations estimates at 300,000 the number of people who have fled fighting in Darfur in the first five months of the year," Amos said, according to an Arabic translation of her remarks. (AFP)
