Health Ministry report: 1 in 5 Israelis smoke

One in five Israelis over the age of 21 are smokers, according to a new report issued by the Health Ministry and currently being presented to the Knesset. The report states that men begin smoking at the average age of 17.9 years and women at 20 years.

 

The report also states that the smoking rate among men in Israel is 24.9% and among women, 12.6%. Additionally, a third of all soldiers smoke and over 25,000 Israelis have sought assistance in quitting cigarettes. (Dr. Itay Gal)
