Peri Committee approves criminal sanctions on dodgers
None
The committee for equal burden approved a clause in the bill which will impose criminal sanctions on draft dodgers, including yeshiva students. The law now goes to the government and then to the Knesset. Committee members approved to extend the transition period for implementation of the law from three years, to four years.
The new clause determines that if recruiting targets are not met during the interim period, the Defense Service Law will apply to all recruits besides 1,800 yeshiva students, and criminal sanctions defined in the law will begin to be enforced. (Moran Azulay)
