Man suspected of killing mother confesses

Roee Ohana, suspected of killing his mother
and stabbing his girlfriend Shani Yagodnik, 27, in Kiryat Ata has confessed to the allegations, police reported Thursday.
Ohana told the police that he suspected his girlfriend was cheating on him. He proceeded to confront her and their argument turned violent and ended in stabbing. The suspect's mother, in whose house the argument and consequent stabbing occurred, tried to break up the fight and was subsequently also stabbed.

According to police, "he wanted to break up with his girlfriend and got angry with her. He was suspicious of her and therefore stabbed her. His mother tried to break them up so he stabbed her."
It has yet to be determined whether Ohana had planned to stab his mother and girlfriend.
The suspect's lawyers were skeptical that any merit can be attributed to his confession, citing Ohana's mental state both at the time of the event and presently.
"I met with him shortly before his confession," Rania Sarouji, one of his lawyers said, adding that "for about half-an-hour he wasn’t clear and it didn’t make sense to me that thirty minutes later he confessed. The court will have to address his mental state."
Ohana's girlfriend told the police that he had told her he wanted to break up with her some two days prior to the incident, but she had refused. "At some point he called me to the room and then stabbed me. His mother intervened and then he stabbed her," she said.
"I went out with him for five months and he was a good person without any problems. I don’t know why it happened," she added.
The incident occurred Monday, when MDA was called to the scene after neighbors heard screaming from Ohana' mother's apartment. A paramedic who arrived at the scene said he saw the two women on the ground just outside the house.
The victims were evacuated to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa with severe stab wounds. The mother died of her wounds shortly after arriving at the hospital.
