The rabbi, who is listed in stable condition, suffered contusions to the lower part of his body. He apparently stumbled and fell as he was making his way to a synagogue that is adjacent to his home in the capital. He is reportedly suffering from intense pain but is fully conscious.
A doctor who was called to the scene said the rabbi may be suffering from a broken bone. Ovadia Yosef was accompanied to the hospital by his personal physician and Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri.
Earlier this year the rabbi, 92, collapsed in a synagogue during Shabbat prayers and was rushed to the emergency room, where he underwent a series of tests. A few hours later, the rabbi's doctors said he had suffered a minor stroke.
