Knesset Members' aids unionize

None

Parliamentary assistants to some 200 MKs from all factions, representing more than a third of the total number of parliamentary assistants, joined the Histadrut Labor Union.

"We work long hours overtime sans adequate compensation, and the Knesset does not recognize us as its employees. The assistant's role changed in recent years and has come to include permanent availability, working unconventional hours, travel and expenses. Whereas our low wages have not been updated in the face of rising high prices," they said in a statement. (Billie Frenkel)
