Polio in Beersheba sewage: Immunization campaign underway

The Health Ministry will soon begin a comprehensive vaccination campaign in Beersheba and Rahat following the discovery of the polio virus in sewage. Testing found that the genetic sequence of the virus detected in the sewage is the same sequence of virus recently discovered in Egyptian wastewater. The ministry stressed that so far there have been no cases of illness.

Immunizations will via infant care programs and to second-graders in schools. Also, monitoring of cases of paralysis will be expanded to all neurological departments in the nationwide. (Dr. Itay Gal)
