Istanbul mayor: Park won't be turned into mall, but development to continue

Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas said the park the struggle for the conservation of which sparked mass protests will not be turned into a shopping mall. However the official insisted the site's redevelopment would go ahead.

"We are definitely not thinking of building a shopping mall there, no hotel or residence either. It can be... a city museum or an exhibition centre," Topbas added. (AFP)
