President Shimon Peres sent a letter expressing his condolences to the family of author Yoram Kaniuk who died Saturday night: "Yoram's death is a great loss to the world of Israeli literature, culture and thought. He saw Israel in his unique way, and expressed its spirit with his talent for humane writing, filled with compassion and wild at the same time.
"He never feared to stray from the path, and did not stray from his inner truth which guided him, even when it didn't fit the consensus. His books will continue to be read by the people long after his death." (Noam Dvir)
