Suspected militants on Sunday shot dead a counterterrorism police officer in the Sinai Peninsula after they swerved in front of his car while he was driving, security officials said.
Maj. Mohammed Abdelaziz, 30, managed to kill one of his two assailants in the gunfight in the town of el-Arish on the Mediterranean, the officials said. The second attacker sped off after the shooting. Abdelaziz was a member of the counterterrorism department in the national internal security agency. (AP)
