AG: Rabbi Metzger's powers to be transferred to Rabbi Amar

In a letter to the Ministry of Religious Services, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein stated that Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar will be the sole authority in appointing the council that elects the next chief rabbis. This follows an announcement by Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger that he is suspending himself from all his duties due to legal allegations against him.

The council that elects the chief rabbis consists of 10 rabbis, who are appointed by the chief rabbis and the government. (Aviel Magnezi)
