New Qatari emir gives first public speech

Qatar's incoming emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani gave his first public speech Wednesday after his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, officaily abdicated the position in his favor. Among other topics, the emir touched on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"We must stand by the Palestinian people to promise it achieves its legitimate rights," Tamim said, adding that "the basis for a just peace includes an Israeli withdrawal from the lands it captured in 1967." (Roi Kais)
