US finds discrimination in LA area law enforcement

The US Justice Department's civil rights division has found that two Los Angeles County law enforcement stations have engaged in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional stops, searches, seizures and excessive targeting African-Americans and Latinos.

A Justice Department statement Friday says it and Los Angeles County have reached preliminary agreements to make broad changes to policing in the Antelope Valley.  The investigation dating to August 2011 involves the Sheriff's Department's Lancaster and Palmdale stations in the high desert north of Los Angeles.
