Fighting from Syria's more than 2-year-old conflict has damaged some 9,000 state buildings and run up some $15 billion in losses to the public sector, a government minister said Sunday, shining a light on the toll the crisis has taken on the economy.
Syria's civil war has laid waste to entire neighborhoods, and destroyed much of its manufacturing base and infrastructure. The damage to the nation's human resources has been severe, with more than a million people fleeing the country, millions more displaced within it and, according the a UN estimate, more than 93,000 people killed.
